Killzone 2: Update

With the Dutch developers bringing the highly anticipated Killzone2 forever closer with every click they make on their mouses it’s now only a matter of time. With the dawn of 2009, if all goes to plan we could all be sitting playing Killzone2 in a month and a half, thanking the developers for every single delay they put us through.

”In and out with in a month they said, enemy moral at an all time low, resistance low to moderate”, the words from the narrative of one of the many Killzone2 trailers that have impacted on the ps3’s face like teenage acne.  I myself am not a KIllzone veteran, I hold my hands up I never showed interest in the ps2 title, I can and love to say has changed for this one. So just incase you’re not up-to-date well here’s the low down. Two years ago some guys called the Helghast, came and layed shit down in some place called Vektra.  The ISA (The Humans), decided to counter attack right onto the Helghast’s turf. Their goal? Simple…To capture the Helghast leader Emperor Visari and grind the Helghast army to halt thus winning the battle for Humanity. You and a highly trained tactical team of veterans head off to the front line of the ISA’s breach of the Helghast’s defences and fight through a rollercoaster of hostile environments and enemy lines.

Weaponolgy like no other, putting the fear of god into the ISA’s soldiers they Helghast army is capable of much grater things than their foes, harnessing the planet’s power such as lightening strikes to fight against their enemy. The higly powerful sniper rifle ripping limbs from victims. And the series of standard use assault rifles. The list goes on and on…The best part of this game is every weapon has a twist. Its like the developers sat down with Bacon sandwiches one morning and said “Hold on a little, I want Bacon and Sausage. What I mean basically is everything has been thought through, was that initial or part of the delays I don’t know but its pretty sweet. Example, Snipers that can turn invisible?! Its genius (and is called cloaking for those who don’t know).

The gore factor that has been seen is so realistic, blood will fly from pretty much anything with legs smearing up walls and spraying onto the floor, and when a player is shot depending on the damage a blood efect will appear on the hud. The deaths aren’t rag doll but are cool, in a disjointed way enemies collapse to the floor holding a part of thier body or slowly grind to a halt as thier legs stop from sprinting, the whole mechanism is amazing.

AI has really been polished. And when I mean polished I mean its something like seeing an OAP driving arround on one of those rediculous moped things with spinners, pimp dice and a nice can of NOS on the back. I mean its really looking nice. Previous games I’ve seen AI all over the place, covering up invisible walls and just standing in cross-fire. This time the AI think for them selves, being able to reliase when cover is in danger of being destroyed and moving to another piece before it is. They will also adapt towards the dynamics of the cover for instance if you blow the top off a collum, the AI will notice this change and lean towards the floor keeping their body out of target.

The game is looking sweet and is coming to the shops in Feb 2009, I’m not going to say a date because in truw ps3 exclusive style it is likely to change with in Feb or even the year depending on feed back from the beta. This game has now been in development for over 4 years and any further enhancements can only make it better, be tollerent here folks, this game will be a gem!

Sony To Bundle Heaset With More Games.

The official ps3 headset came to the market a few days ago coming as an optional bundle with the hit shooter Socom:Confrontation. The headset is now set to be bundled with the up-and-coming Ubisoft shooter Tom Clancy’s:End War. The game can be bought alone for the standard price of £39.99 from most retailers and for just an extra £20 you can get the headset with the game for £59.99.

The sleek headset has been given the nod by the thousands of Socom players who purchased it with the game. The headset features a small confertable disign which is built for gaming, cancelling out background noise and giving gamers a high quality microphone and speaker to communicate with friends with. The headset also comes with a small charging dock, which connects to the PS3 System via USB cable. The dock enable players to speak into the headset whilst it is charging, which is a great feature for EndWar!

Tom Clancy’s End War – Preview.

Seeing a small trailer sometime 2007, I passed it off as “One Of Those Games”, the game play looked too good to be true, and I never really grasped the idea of it was, I thought it was another Ghost Recon in later stages of the story.

So I saw some advertisement on GameTrailers when I went to see some Beta videos of R2. Out of curiosity I clicked on the ad and had a look round at the vids, some of them being cinema-tics which looked good until one of the hit me in the face, “Like Whoa!”. This game was entirely voice command. Yes, this was impressive but then I had visions of my self repeating commands into the mic and throwing it accross the room…But, then a game trailer from E3 had running commentary on the game as the player progressed, now this guy had the most complexed, ”Stuttery” accent from down south I had heard. And to my suprise the recognition was picking it up superbly!!

So the game is an RPG when you play the role as a Commander in the year 2020 as a WWIII general. You can play as the Europeans, USA or Russia. The story line is as follows; Mankind recognises the need for peace on earth, but it isn’t long to somebody goes and blows a huge hole in the middle east killing 10 Million people. And from there the USA launch a “Space Fortress” and the Russians start researching amazing elctro-spectacular equipment all of these events lead up to ”End War” aka WWIII.

So like I said campaign mode is variable giving you the option to play as USA,EU or Russia. Each side has its advantages such as USA have better Rifle Man/Infantry, the Russians have better equipment and the EU are just stealthy etc..

So with over 40 fully destructible worldcities at your hands what an earth do you do? Well this is the clever part, they guys at Ubi have really done it this time, fully functioning voice recognition, give you the battle at your fingertips. Squads with their own personality and voices is to give players an emotional feeling to the game’s characters. Giving orders is as easy as “One-Two-Three” you select and unit, action, destination via controller or headset e.g “Unit One, Attack, Hostile 6″ then Unit One would proceed to that order by them selves using AI to take cover whether that is behind tanks or walls or even in buildings, yup, that’s right buidlings all the buildings on the map can be used as strategic way-points to attack and spot enemies. If that is an arsenal of snipers in a office block just giving you a bigger view of the battlefield or demolitiontroops firing ballistics at on-coming tanks you do the thinking. Every thing is balanced in this game so buildings can be bought to the ground and troops will die in the process, its not just a fact as where buildings disappear off the map and your troops are left standing, buildings fall to ruble and troops die. And an added novelty bonus you can expect to meet people from other Ubi shooters from Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon.

The whole realism of the game goes just that one bit further in an amazing online Multi player Mode, players or Clans can go head to head in a conquest to conquer the world. Players are encouraged to use their commanding skills in groups together or as a lone wolf on the battlefield. At the moment multi player goes as far as 4 vs 4 but is set to increase along with new game modes in an update not long after launch.

So final words…To me, this game is prefect, finally a game where you can sit back and control it by your self, no AI telling you what you can and can’t do, its you. You are the commander, you make the decisions and you face the consequences. This game is due to be released on PSP,PS3 and XBOX360 on the 4th of November for US/CAN and on the 7th for EU.

I hope to see you online.

Killzone 2: UPDATE

So after looking arround I came accross some rather amazing gameplay of Killzone 2. But this time its Multiplayer function. So I can say what I saw is good. Its kind of reassuring that it keeps getting pushed back so that we gamers will have a much better experience.

So the maps. Well they look preeety unique. The scenery overall is some of the best I have seen. The distruction feature is a nice addition too, its not as detailed as Battlefield Bad Company but they odd plate of concrete falling from above your head and smashing onto the floor really gives it that realistic touch.

The visuals look superb and unlike most trialers this developer shows you the real deal no enhanced graphics just Killzone 2 gameplay at its finest!

The weapons look even more amazing. Each team has its standard Assualt Rifle etc. But from what I can gather you can kinda select from a preset class like CoD4. The sniper is even more impresive becoming invisible and only to appear when re-loading.  Whilst the sniper picks off the enemy players seem to be put in (as I can only describe) last stand, in which a team mate goes an heals the player so he can get back on his feet. Eventually the enemy call in air support. A green flair is lit and incomes an aircraft which then guns down the sniper in a bloody graphical effect. And to the end the aircraft is then shot down with missiles.

So what do I think?  SCE and Guerilla have done well. The balance looks awsome. Everything can be counter attacked which is what future games need. Not where noobs run arround with some ub3r poweful gun and slaughter everone. The whole 30 v 30 thing seems to be looking sweet, with each map catering for each amount of chaos. Of course we all knew as soon as this was put into development it would be great and even before release it is proving it! With 2009 getting closer by the day so does Killzone 2.

Here’s to a new beggining of Multiplayer gaming!

Sony Set To Dominate

So after the E3 media briefing from Sony it was clear that SCE are working their buts off to release the new and upcoming games. I’m sure alot of you saw the briefing from the Playstation Store or IGN. So  what did we see in this conference. We were shown new trailiers and gameplay from the anticipated Resistance 2, Motorstorm Pacific Rift and Little Big Planet. Of course that wasn’t all. Gamers were introduced to two ground breaking game from SCE. MAG was first to hit our eyes the online game that gives 256 gamers the war experience. And DC Universe…Reperesented by Sony Online Entertainment. This MMO (Massive Multiplayer Game), gives players to create or live life in their favorite superhero roam the city and cause destruction or save citiezans.

So anyways a few months down the line and then we get to another gaming convention Leipzig. A city in Germany where Gamers, evelopers and Media all gather in one convention to check out the games. So you could say its like E3 just not as big. In Sony’s conference they announced the production of the “psp 3000″ the newest to the psp family. Whilst like the old psp it won’t have many changes it is just said to have a built in microphone and a better screen resolution.

Also Sony released more groundbreaking trailers on R2, Killzone 2, Mororstorm Pacific Rift and Little Big Planet. Along with some other content that will be making its way onto the Playstation Network. Such as an Expansion Pack for Warhawk (which will include Jet Packs).

Aswell as games Sony introduced some new hardware. One of which that caught my eye was the “Play TV” product. Now if you don’t already know in the UK. This product gives you Free View, (The package from the BBC). Unlike many other packages this alows you to watch in HD or SD and also goves you the option to record to your Playstation 3 HDD. Aswell as this you can pause and controll live TV on demand. Aswell as this you can watch TV anywhere with a wireless connection using the PSP. You simply scan for your Play TV box and then stream live tv straight to your PSP. David Reeves, (President of SCEE). Then announced the 80GB ps3 will be coming to Europe as of the 22nd and with a bonus the 160GB ps3 will be launched later on this year coming with a range of PSN games to suit each region! And if that was not enought a new service called “VidZone” this gives PS3 users accross 23 European countries the oppurtunity to listen to songs and watch videos from their favourite artists and then using remote play listen to them on PSP. He added the servic would be free of charge. And for the users of internet and messaging, the Micro KeyBoard will be making an apperance. The keyboard plugs right into SIXAXIS or DUALSHOCK 3 controllers and is said to make services such as Home more user friendly.

So with all this coming to ps3 late 2008 and 2009, every Playstation user has something to look forward to!

Stay tuned for more news on release dates and new games.

Peak Point?

So with all of the recent and upcoming titles such as Haze, BFBC, MGS4, MGO, Motorstorm2 and Resistance 2, we could say the PS3 is finally making its push for the victor of the “console war”. With shock 360 exclusives such as Lost Planet and Bio Shock making their way over to the playstation, signs of increasing interest from developers are coming in thick and fast.

Sony’s Playstation Network is also peaking with the release of Metal Gear Online, the soon to come Home and the in-development Socom has certainly help the PS3 climb the ladder.

Along with big titles coming in 2009 such as Killzone 2 and GT5 we certainly have a lot to look forward too!

So crack open those piggy banks, because the PS3 is going to be bombarded with games!

MGS4 BETA!

Yup, you saw correctly a BETA for North America when you pre-order

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the patriots in April. Customers from Game stop and some other stores will receive a promotion DVD that contains a code to access the online BETA code in which you can access multiplayer game modes.

So lucky for North America, they get to brush up in their skills so they can own all of us, sadly for Europe we miss out, its quite annoying that Sony have just decided to leave Europe out of their plans. But rest assured, if you are a Hard-Core MGS fan, there are some pre-order packages, along with the BETA code on www.ebay.co.uk.

But like me, if you think something around £20 is too much for a few days of a BETA I would wait for the full version to come out in June.

Battle Field Bad Company, Multiplayer Mode.

UPDATE:

It’s been a while since we heard about Battle Field Bad Company on ps3news.eu. Since then there has been a hell of a lot of work out into the multiplayer aspect of the game. For people who are new to the Battle Field series the game has been a popular online shooter for pc and playstation for some years now, and has been notoriously known in the market for its huge maps and chaotic vehicles and guns, whether that will be jets or tanks.

If you have been following the development and watching developer blogs, you will know that one of the best features in the game is the destructible environment in the game, that gives you the ability to bring towns and villages to a mere pile of rubble. The developers have used this in online too which makes the game more addicting and maybe carves a path more developers will follow.

One of the featured game modes I have looked at is “Gold Rush” this game mode involves two teams the Defenders and the Attackers. The Defending team must protect their base(s) which contain boxes full of gold in any means necessary weather that is hogging the LMG guns, using Air Strikes to wreak havoc amongst enemy front lines or simply run around town running and gunning and blowing holes in walls.

The Attacking team if you haven’t gathered must capture the gold from the Defending team, there is a slight advantage though…The more crates they unlock the further the Defending team must retreat, this enable the Attacking to gain more vehicles to continue the assault until the defending team are pushed back so far, they can’t retreat anymore.

Final words: The game play so far shown in the video looks promising, the visuals look up to scratch and the whole game its self is looking pretty sweet. I myself have never played any of the Battle Field series, but from what has been said, it has a lot to live up to. I’m  sure PS3 users all over the world veterans or newcomers will be looking forward to the game. Lucky for the Xbox 360 users, the BETA was released earlier this week, like me if you have friends with Xbox 360’s I am sure you’re itching to go around their house.

That’s all for now…

US and EU Re-United in Call of Duty 4

At last the EU and US regions are to re-united after a long wait! For nigh on two months the US and European servers were split up due to connection issues which were causing large problems in COD4  online multiplayer game play.

The reason for the waiting was that the different companies involved in producing the update needed to get it fully sanctioned by SCEE. The issue was originally intended to be resolved after the christmas break. Well,  it is indeed after the christmas break and I was kind of expecting we would be waiting for December 25th 2008  by the slow progress!

The Communication Relations Manager “fourzerotwo” today said on the forums;

“Hey Everyone –

I have great news as rumor has it from SCEE today that the EU Connectivity patch has passed certification, and while I can’t speak for them (as it’s up to them to release it), word has it that they may be releasing it to users for download as soon as this Friday (8th)!

Just wanted to pass this along as I just got the word.”

I’m sure like me, all the Europeans will be dusting off there golden AK’s.
