The event’s organizers at Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association are determined to make the 2008 TGS, which runs from October 9-12, even bigger than last year. “Based on these successes of last year, the Tokyo Game Show will seek to be the world’s largest computer entertainment show once again in 2008, with exhibitors from across Japan and around the world, and to serve not only as a forum for exchanging information about world markets, but to increase in terms of both scale and quality,” CESA said in a statement.

A theme has also been decided for the event, which will have the motto “Ready for game time!” The event will be a celebration of how games can be fun for everyone and how “expanding their territories from home systems to various terminals and media, games have now entered into every aspect of our lives, evolving into entertainment that anyone can enjoy anywhere.”

This year’s planned TGS exhibit areas include a general area, mobile content, business solutions, game school, kids, sales, and a new PC online game section. According to the official CESA website, 180,000 people are expected to check out TGS this year, although promotional leaflets given out at GDC are predicting a less modest 217,000 attendees. According to the organisers, about 170 exhibitors will be on hand in about 1,550 booth units.

The only real issue is how to get there!

I started off driving around the city for about 20 minutes getting to know it a little, at first I was very impressed, but then as I approached about 23% I thought this is the same old GTA everyone knows sex, drugs, killing, that thought hasn’t left my mind yet. I think the game and city is amazing but I feel there is something missing, I don’t know what but Rockstar have missed something, it might be that the strip club doesn’t allow touching, I don’t know? The missions are excellent, the cluckin bell is excellent, the hookers are excellent but it lacks something. I have gone back to Call of Duty 4 whilst having this game, I think everyone will, but come on you can’t just forget about the best FPS in history because a new addition to the GTA franchise has come along.

Although I have said it lacks something and people will go back to COD4, I am still going to give this game a very good 8/10! You must try it!

The competition is called GT Academy, and the first round will be an online GT5 Prologue tournament hosted on the PLAYSTATION Network (for Europeans only). It appears that entrants will be racing a Nissan GT-R in a special livery when the competition begins later this month. The rest of the competition will span some eight months, at the end of which the winner will receive a four-month training program to earn actual racing licenses. With his or her newfound knowledge of real physics and how actual damage occurs, the winner will then be given a stint behind the wheel of a Nissan 350Z in the 24-hour endurance race in Dubai.

Creek – This was the first map I played and it is big, a little too big actually for an outdoor forest map. You cannot see any of the players (unless you are a sniper) from the opposite team because the trees are so dense and it is all up and down in and out. I also thought IW said, ‘tired of Russian forests and Middle Eastern villages’ yes we are, but they give us some more, Creek is Russian (just look at the signs near the houses) and Broadcast is Iraqi (Middle Eastern?).

I would rate Creek an average map at 5/10.

 

Chinatown - This is the 2nd map I played, as I did in Creek I had a scoot round to find my bearings and then jumped into matches, I was quite impressed, there are a lot of places to hide, snipe and run about looking for people to kill, so the best one so far. This is defintley different from any other map before and is pretty good too!

I would rate Chinatown at a very good 8/10.

 

Broadcast – The 3rd map I played, and it won’t be the last time either, this map has everything you could possibly want in a COD4 map, lots and lots of space, plenty of sniping spots and lots of places to attack! The main hall has almost 10 entrances which makes it hard to defend in search and destroy and domination ect which is good for the people trying to attack! The best map of the lot so far!

I would rate Broadcast at awesome 9/10!

 

Killhouse – The last map I played, it might be the last time aswell, it is awful, there is a watch tower bang in the middle where if you get up you die within 2 seconds, walls all over and lots of red arrows? Not my favourite map I have to admit. I see what IW have tried to do, but sorry guys it hasn’t worked. It is basically a warehouse set up as an army training centre.

 I would rate Killhouse at a poor 4/10. Sorry IW.

 

So the map to play in the new variety map pack is Broadcast, I don’t think the DLC is worth £6.99 but, you’ve got to make money somewhere. Also releasing them so close to the release of the awesome GTA IV hasn’t done IW much good either, with people opting for GTA rather than COD4.
