New PS3 site caters for Online Multiplayer fans!

A new site has been launched that is dedicated to the many PS3 owners who wish to play orgainsied online events and tournaments. You can find it at www.ps3multiplayer.com .

PS3 Online games

As well as a fast growing forum to help out those with questions regarding the Playstation 3 console it offers detailed attention to individual games, both released and upcoming.

However, it is in the area of Online Multiplayer gaming that the site sets itself above others.

PS3 Multiplayer offers the ability for all online PS3 fans to set up their own challenges and arrange meets. It also offers clans a means to easily challenge each other. Each Clan is offered its own forum section where they can showcase their Clan and recruit new members . They are also offered a private ‘War Room’ where they can discuss upcoming battles and tactics.

Most interestingly of all , though, the site organises weekly events such as the Call of Duty 3 Sunday Special or Resistance fall of Man Saturday Shootout where dozens of players battle it out for points which go towards an ongoing leaderboard.

Whats better than having your name in lights !! :)

Well, at the end of each month they have special events where the winner of the event wins a PS3 game of their choice! great stuff!

Signing up to the events is free and incredibly easy. Book now to avoid disappointment!

Whats this ? European PS3 with even worse backwards compatability!

Yep, in another move to further alienate its potential European customers, SONY have confirmed that the Playstation 3 consoles at the European launch will work with even less PS2 games than the US and Asian consoles which play 98 percent of old games.

This is basically because SONY have decided software will take over some of the functionality that was originally taken care of by dedicated chips.

“The backwards compatibility is not going to be as good as the U.S. and Japan models,” a Sony spokesman said.

“Rather than concentrate on PS2 backwards compatibility, in the future, company resources will be increasingly focused on developing new games and entertainment features exclusively for PS3,” Sony Computer Entertainment said in a statement.

So there you have it, they’ve even tried to put a positive spin on it as if they are actually doing Europe a favor!

It’s not hard to see why the Europeans feel like unwanted lepers in all this. They are being charged $780 for the console, $75 for the games and were made to wait over 4 months.

Could you blame the Europeans for boycotting this wonderful machine in their thousands? At the very least, SONY have not played this one very well and they will on ly have themselves to blame if the European launch does not go as well as expected.

F1 Championship Edition – A suprise hit?

F1 CE comes out next week on the Playstation 3 and for Formula One Grand Prix fans it surely is a must buy?

Well judging by how good the trailor looks this game could be a big winner. Click HERE to  watch the official SONY trailor .

F1 on the PS3

The shots of the cars moving around the track are very impressive and the lighting effects are superb. This game may truly show the PS3 in a better light than other titles have done, such as Need fro Speed carbon.

The real question is how will it sell overall. Obviously, Europe and Asia will snap it up but will it do well in the key market that is the US? F1 isn’t as huge in the US but given the lack of Nascar/Cart/Indy titles then this game still makes the most sense.

I just hope they get the gameplay right. The Arcade mode should be fun but the Career mode should be more realistic without being unplayable otherwise the longevity of this game will be pretty short.

GAME joins the UK preorder list..

Things are hotting up for the UK market now.

GAME, a major UK supplier has today announced they too are taking PS3 pre-orders.

The good news in all this for the Europeans is that this surely means SONY have given them the go ahead and we can assume that means that the 23rd March is now confirmed as the launch date, no question…

The UK pre-order list is now:

HMV, Virgin, Amazon and Game but I imagine others are now signed up or due to offer preorders any minute…

Interestingly GAME are offering preorder bundles as follows:

(take a deep breath, this is remortgage stuff…)

Sony PlayStation 3 with Resistance: Fall of Man, Call of Duty 3 and Motorstorm

  £554.96 Preorder

This bundle contains:

  • Sony PlayStation 3 Console (60GB)
  • Resistance: Fall of Man
  • Call of Duty 3
  • Motorstorm

Sony PlayStation 3 with Resistance: Fall of Man, Virtua Fighter 5, Virtua Tennis 3

  £564.96 Preorder

This bundle contains:

  • Sony PlayStation 3 Console (60GB)
  • Resistance: Fall of Man
  • Virtua Fighter 5
  • Virtua Tennis 3

The first bundle looks great!

Thats a lot of money, no doubt. Stomaching the PS3 alone price of £425 is one thing. Paying neaar £600 for a package, though representing better value, is another.

Dont forget, they will need an extra controller soon and probably an HDMI cable !

Kids and Consoles – A dangerous combination !?

When I was a lad I would spend my days playing outside with my many friends. I would be playing with the usual stuff of my era; marbles, toy soldiers, Action Men, Scalectrix, etc.

i’d be out as soon as I got back from school and I’d be out playing in the cul-de-sac all day on weekends.

Now, things are different. Parents are struggling to get their kids out of the house! It’s all to do with the fantastic toys at their disposal and the worst offenders of those are consoles such as the Playstation 3

My lads talk about it, dream about it and play it. They won’t get to the table on time because they are playing it. They won’t stay at the table and finish their meal because the PS3 beckons them. These are the MINOR problems..

Continued play turns them in to hyper-monsters. They are fidgety, agressive, cannot concentrate, overly tired and grumpy. To be honest, I’ve noticed similar traits in myself after prolonged periods of play and I get really snappy with the missus…. Oh dear. If I continue to let my kids submerge themselves into a virtual world does that make me a bad father ?!

We do try to keep them off it. We try and ‘ration’ it, say one day on and one day off. We even take away a day for bad behavious. The thing is, they whine and winge so much its all too easy to just give in, which is what usually happens. Its a vicious circle.

For our kids’ sake maybe we should not have any TV or videos games at all! Get them back on the streets, it is turning them into sociopathic, agoraphobic zombies.

You know it is bad when I realised my 3 year old can turn the PS3, load a game, resume his campaign or career on a game and happily use incredible dexterity to make his way through levels which adults unfamiliar with arcade games would find extremely confusing.

He dresses  up in army gear and goes around trying to Melee you on the legs… :)

PLaystation 3 for kids!

He has a little trouble with pronounciation at the moment so his favorite words and thrases are: Dauladuty (Call of Duty), forrermann (Resistance Fall of Man) and Adookah (Bazooka).

Maybe its just the way things are now. Maybe they will grow up to be technosavvy, highly PC literate individuals with super quick brains.. Plus its freezing outside, who can blame them!
