Advertising within PS3 Games

The first inkling of more intrusive Company Advertisements within actual games was mentioned last year with EA Sports actually announcing an official comment that they are embracing more in-game advertisements! :8

Of course, sports games in particular appeal to a younger and eager product buying sector and we have always got use to ‘adverts’ on the billboards by racing tracks in games so far.

Advertisements within Playstation games to get worse!

On the one hand you have to say that mainstream Films have been advocating product placement for many years. I’ll never forget that scene in Terminator when a naked Kyle Reese runs into a store to avoid the cops, picks a trench coat and then the Nike sneakers appear unde the curtain… Can we expect more ‘groan’ moments in our favorite games on the Playstation 3?

Apparently, although there may be some in-yer-face advertising on walls, track boardings and sports arenas the advertising will mainly take the form of secrets and downloadable extra goodies. Now, getting a company to pay the publisher a large sum of money to showcase their product in a subtle way is okay by me if it doesn’t spoil the gameplay one jot. However, if we have to pay for branded extras such as a can of coke to give your player energy, for example, then it is going too far.

I can just imagine running from one building to another in Call of Duty 5 and then a cut-scene comes on where the soliders pull open a can of Cola…. It’s going to happen…. :)

All this will eventually be resolved and the publishers will get to know how far they can go with this as sales become affected. This will dictate just how far this possible intrusion will go.

It could be worse….

Imagine finally getting in a position to snipe the last enemy, taking a deep breath, finger on the trigger, ready to pull…. and….. the screen goes black and the latest Advert from Chrysler hits the screen… Click HERE to resume the PS3 game….  Oh dear!

Devil May Cry 4 Demo Unleashed

Recently released onto the US PSN store is Devil May Cry 4 Trial Version. Many people should know of the Devil May Cry series from the Playstation 2, which spawned 2 sequels on that console, and as the games advanced, both graphically and in plot, they gradually got better in all aspects. Moreover from what I have seen from the demo and the trailers that the game indeed lives up to the name, and continues in the updates in graphics and story, which now involves a new playable character named Nero (pictured below)

This, along with the new and improved graphics, should prove this game worthy of its press review score of 8.6

Features:

  • From the producer of the original Devil May Cry and Resident Evil 4
  • High-definition visuals moving at 60 frames per second
  • Blend of familiar and new: newcomer Nero clashes with veteran Dante
  • New characters and environments
  • Signature blend of guns and swordplay
  • Deep combo system rewards stylish dispatching of enemies
  • Unique “Devil Bringer” arm opens up a range of combo options
  • Distinct set of weaponry and moves for Nero and Dante
  • Exceed System allows Nero to charge up his sword with a throttle effect, revving up to three levels with powerful attack options
  • New active style change system for Dante allows him to switch styles and weapons on the fly, producing crazy combo possibilities
  • You can look forward to seeing this game in stores from the 5th of February.

Ok, so when is Haze actually released?

Ubi soft and free radical, creators of Haze, have been keeping the public eye in real antisipation about the release date of the highly awaited PS3 title ‘Haze’.

Here at PS3Media we have been looking into, and contacting some developers and others involved in the creation and release of Haze, but yet.. we still have no official answer.

Free Radical have released that the Delay was due to an update in the games performance and overall interactivity. Haze Lead Developer Dave Doak has stated that

“any delay on a game is a good thing – it’s more time to optimize and polish and tweak and generally improve the whole damn thing to the Nth degree.”

So, we already know that the expectations of Haze is going to be high, lets just hope that the developers and ubi, can pull this off to its ultima!

    PS3 Haze

Although what we can officially reveal, is that the game will be released in Q1 of this year, you can find out prices of Haze at PS3 Sales.

    America Invaded…

Imagine what the world would be like if Nazi Germany and Axis forces had taken over all of Europe, conquered everything in their path, then made their way to American soil. New York City. Prepare to open your mind to this, first of its kind WWII based game for the Playstation 3 called, Turning Point: Fall of Liberty.

A soldier? No! Your character’s name is Dan Carson, an average construction worker in the Big Apple. As soon as you take out the first Nazi you see and steal his German manufactured gun away, the war is on. Taking place in 1953, this first person shooter not only has your classic WWII weaponry, but also includes weapons and tanks that never made it passed the assembly line.

I know I can’t wait to check out this game, which is due to release February 28, 2008. Single player and online multiplayer are the options to choose from. I’m sure people are ready to leave their typical WWII shooter for a different, guerilla warfare type of game. Perhaps it will be added with the other multiplayer games on the www.ps3multiplayer.com website.

    Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune Review

Uncharted has to be the most explosive mind blowing action packed shooter out on the Playstation 3. It greets us with friendly controls and an amazing story line that will keep you in your chair until the end chapter. From the very first level after a short cinematic you will be encountered in shoot out with pirates in the pacific ocean, from there you will go on to discover the characters you will be along side with through the story mode. Developers Naughty Dog should be quite proud of them selves as they have managed to create a world full of twist turns and some odd surprises along the way.

The story starts in the middle of the Pacific Ocean with main character Nathan ‘Nate’ Drake and the documentary producer Elena, who films Nate on his quest for the treasure.

They then go on to pull out of the sea the coffin or rather Tomb of Sir Francis Drake, who supposedly is an ancestor of Nate, in the tomb is a journal which has all of Sir Francis’ scribblings and notes…But there’s not much time to look as the next minute you and the wonderful Elena, are in a ferocious gun battle with pirates, from there on there is no turning back, after going back to the harbour you then meet Nate’s right hand man Sully, Sully is a typical cigar smoking womanising middle aged man who has seen a expedition too many…

From that point Nate, Sully and Elena can roam a tropical jungle, which is covered with hidden treasures, which can be collected to unlock things such as ammo and health.

The Realism in the game play is highly impressive as Nate climbs up ancient ruins, wades through rivers and works his way through the lush jungle environment. The controls are friendly too and every jump is planned out so you won’t waste you time falling off huge walls of stone. There is also a logical side to the game as sometimes you may be required to think a little of where to climb and what to shoot…But when you have Sully or Elena beside you a whole world of Co-operative AI opens up, as Sully pulls a chain to open a door, Nate goes and looks for an alternative route for Sully to get in.

Its not too long before a few enemies turn into several waves and you are left with a vast arsenal of weapons to gun your way through pirates and what not…The controls are good too, a cover system has been taken into thought so you are not left running an gunning, when in cover you simply hold L1 to bring up Nate’s sight and R1 to shoot. And when you’re out of ammo just go beat the guy up with the amazing combo’s you discover!

This game is amazing! Developers Naughty Dog have gone all out to create a living breathing world that will have you on the edge of your seat all the way through! So many tiny details have gone into the game on Water, Grass and even the soaking wet clothes on Nate after he’s been for a quick dip!

    Graphics 10/10

    Sound 9/10

    Game play 9/10

    Overall 9/10

Furthermore while this update may show that SCEE has not forgotten about the Singstar franchise the update is not going to bring happiness to those who are not fans of supergrass or blur, as they together add up to half the songs which were added, but as this may be a disapointment to some people they may take solace in the fact that this update shows that they haven’t forgotten about the Singstore and that there are more updates on the way

The songs in the update include:

    Arrested Development – Tennessee
    Blur – Girls & Boys
    Blur – The Universal
    Blur – To The End
    Blur – She’s So High
    Cartel – Lose It

    Battlefield: Bad Company

Most of us have been waiting and waiting for a breakout game for the PS3, and this really could be it. Based on the success of the previous Battlefield games, I expect this one to have the best online Multiplayer that we have seen so far. Only problem is, when is it going to come out?

The game was supposed to be released last year but it got delayed, just like every other game for the PS3 did. But id rather wait for this game then have them release it with a lot of problems that they don’t bother to fix. Battlefield is really known for their online Multiplayer which is what everyone want’s to play, even more popular than the single player mode. Although this year the Battlefield series has worked on tuning up the single player mode, by introducing the control of a squad of renegade soliders infiltrate enemy territory to obtain riches as well as revenge.

But don’t worry Multiplayer fans, the favorite game modes and everything else that was a big hit with Battlefield will still be in the series. Usually games never give you both a great single player mode and multiplayer mode, but Battlefield expects to deliver.

Multiplayer events will be featured at http://www.ps3leaderboard.com!

    Lost Planet coming soon!

Lost Planet on the Playstation 3

Yet another shooting game for the PS3 involving humans and aliens on similar backdrops!?

Well, yes it is and so what? Shoot ‘em ups are by far the most popular of all PS3 game genres and as we tend to tire of a game after 3 – 6 months every new game in this genre at least gives us something fresh to get our teeth into.

Most new games usually have something different to offer us and Lost Planet: Extreme Conditoning, to give it it’s full title, offers real time loading screens which means the offline action will be intense. It also have HUGE maps on which to go about your business.

Coming out towards the end of february it only has single player offline mode which is a shame but it does have online multiplayer support for up to 16 players. There will be cooperative and versus roles so enthusiastic online gamers and clans should enjoy it.

    See the TRAILER!

We can probably expect to see it at the PS3’s leading online event site, www.ps3multiplayer.com .
