By now you will probably have heard that a new PlayStation 3 version of BioShock is in the making. The PS3 version will have Trophy support, new missions and a rumoured multiplayer mode that is lacking from the Xbox 360 version. But that’s not all – 2K Games are adding “Challenge Rooms”, which will be self-contained areas (ie, you access it from the main menu, not in-game) designed to get you using your plasmids to solve puzzles. HOME support will also be available. BioShock PS3 is currently due for 24th October, 2008.
Los Angeles, July 17, 2008 (Jiji Press) - The Sony Corp. group’s operations related to its PlayStation 3 video game machine are expected to turn profitable by the end of fiscal 2008, a senior group official said Wednesday.

SONY to make a profit on the PlayStation 3
In an interview with Jiji Press, Kazuo Hirai, president and chief executive officer of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., said that it seems difficult to achieve profitability from the game console alone by the end of the business year.
But the overall PS3 operations, including related equipment and game software, are expected to swing to the black, he said.
The PS3 operations have been in the red due to heavy development costs. But recently, parts procurement costs have been falling, according to Hirai.
At the Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3, game show here Tuesday, the Sony group announced the launch of movie and television program distribution services for PS3 users in the United States.
Hirai said that the group is preparing to launch the same services in Japan and Europe, adding that an announcement on the matter will be made when ready. The Sony group’s basic strategy is to provide same-quality services globally, Hirai said.

Call of Duty 5: World At War is probably going to be the most anticipated game of the year, which has a release date for November 13, 2008. Although the makers are taking it back to the second world war era, the fifth installment of the series is going to take place in the Eastern Front and Pacific theater.
For the first time in the Call of Duty series, you will have the ability to swim, but only at half speed. It will also have cooperative gameplay by either four player split-screen or with four players online. Flamethrowers will be reintroduced to the series as well. The makers claim that Call of Duty 5: World at War will be more open-minded than previous games due to the fact that there will be multiple ways to complete missions. For those of you who enjoyed using your perks in the previous game, it’s been confirmed that there will be perks available in Call of Duty 5: World at War. Also, the environment will be more destructible and can be set on fire with a flamethrower. Just when you think the realism stops there, bullets can also cut holes in thin wood to make a gap big enough for the player to climb through.
Seems to me like they are going all out for this game. As I continue to explain I have one name for you. Kiefer Sutherland. “What does he have to do with it?”, you may ask. Kiefer will be helping out by providing his vocals for the game. Not only that but they also constructed a full sized replica of a PBY Catalina (a flying boat) for motion picture use. For all you die hard fans, a toy company called McFarlane Toys will release four action figures to coincide with the games release. All I know is I will reserve my copy of Call of Duty 5: World At War as soon as I can.

So with all of the recent and upcoming titles such as Haze, BFBC, MGS4, MGO, Motorstorm2 and Resistance 2, we could say the PS3 is finally making its push for the victor of the “console war”. With shock 360 exclusives such as Lost Planet and Bio Shock making their way over to the playstation, signs of increasing interest from developers are coming in thick and fast.
Sony’s Playstation Network is also peaking with the release of Metal Gear Online, the soon to come Home and the in-development Socom has certainly help the PS3 climb the ladder.
Along with big titles coming in 2009 such as Killzone 2 and GT5 we certainly have a lot to look forward too!
So crack open those piggy banks, because the PS3 is going to be bombarded with games!
