Did Heavy Rain Fail?

Has Heavy Rain failed as a game in its pursuit of a film-like experience? What is the essence of gaming and should gamers and the industry continue to pursue the film medium?

US PlayStation website revamped

PS3 Attitude: Today the US PlayStation website received an unexpected revamp with a brand new cleaner look.

The dark black site we have become used to has now disappeared in favour of a brighter grey feel that is more akin to its European counterpart.

So far we have to say that we're impressed with it, and the website feels a lot more inviting.

It will even tell you how many of your friends on your PSN account are online at the top of every page, although this doesn't appear to be working right now.

The forums are also offline so we will have to wait and see if there is any change there.

DICE And Infinity Ward Exchange Kind Words

CC: You've all seen the comments from Bad Company 2 and Modern Warfare 2 developers DICE and Infinity Ward claiming that their game is better than the other in some way.

Now though, Bad Company 2 lead game designer David Goldfarb and Infinity Ward's main man Robert Bowling have exchanged some pleasant words. Very pleasant words.

[Update] Heavy Rain is Buggy, Patch Doesn’t Seem to fix Problems

VGChartz: If you got Heavy Rain recently, you may or may not have experienced various game glitches, the amount of them being reported on the web is big enough to warrant an article for itself, the most notable of them so far being audio dropouts and game freezes.

[Update]

VGChartz's reviewer, who played the release version of the game the week before launch, says the problems didn't exist at all before the patch, but are now present after the patch. We, at VGChartz, believe that this may mean the patch is the actual cause of the problems, rather than a solution to it. We suggest you do not patch the game at all if possible, and if you already have and are experiencing the problem we suggest you uninstall and reinstall without the patch.

Heavy Rain: Major Flop or Major Hit

By now, if you purchased Heavy Rain, you have completed the entire game at least once. You have experienced the unique gameplay, compelling characters, and heart-tearing storyline. After having played the game, is Heavy Rain the rare gem that David Cage made it out to be? Or, in the end, was it nothing more than a major flop in all regards?

Keighley: You’ve seen GOWIII, wait until you see what Sony has next

Geoff Keighley on twitter in response to a user who praised the graphical beauty of God of War 3 and the cleverness of the first party Sony, said: "Wait until you see what they are doing next .... very soon on GTTV!

Heavy Rain Looks Like A Big Hit

TAKE a look at the back catalogue of PS3 exclusives.

There's some games in there, such as Uncharted 2, Haze, Resistance 2, Killzone 2 and GT5 all pushing the boundaries of what's possible.

Now add to that list Heavy Rain: The Origami Killer, this week's big release for the PS3. Like many of the above titles, it has innovation coursing through it.

DICE takes a few potshots at ModernWarfare 2

When two developers go head to head for the same core audience, it's not uncommon for their to be some rivalry between the two groups. DICE and Infinity Ward are in this situation. Firing the first shots over the bow, DICE references Modern Warfare 2 in Bad Company 2's single player campaign. The video below is a couple of references that appear to be directed squarely at Infinity Ward. Apparently, DICE believes that both heart monitors on your guns and snow mobiles are for sissies….ZING!(more)

Split-Screen: "There have been numerous visual comparisons between Bungie's upcoming Halo: Reach and Guerrilla Games' Killzone 2. Now it's time to let the numbers do the talking and tell you for real which game looks better."
